Taken up by Andrew. Tim gave for Ray Moxley who dies as a result of bee stings. Lawrence for the TV interview by the liberal media (someone mentioned that liberal media was redundant and this correspondent agrees) Jerry for Brother Bush who said Iraq was like a hive of bees. Announcements:
Does are payable now at an annual rate of 4150 payable semi-annually at $75. Phyllis is looking for someone to head up RYLA. We need speakers for July and the last week of June.

Speaker Highlights: Speaker was introduced by Suzann Madeley. The speaker, Professor James Pennebaker gave a very interesting talk about the relationship between our physical health and our mental health and how the mind can affect our bodies. He related some very interesting studies that looked at how personal stress or traumatic events in our lives affect our health and well being. He further opined how our language and words can help us relieve stress and thus improve our health. He took questions afterwards.

Fred for the Ronald McDonald House coming up on May 1st. Andrew for all the AG’s people working the FLDS situation in San Angelo. Jerry gave for a gentlemen who backed into an intersection so he could see who was following him (go figure).

Announcements:
The District Assembly is on April 26th in Killeen. Phyllis has the info. Lawrence thanked Grant for his work in getting speakers and encouraged everyone to work on filling up the empty may speaker schedule. 3 folks are going to the District Training.

Speaker Highlights: Speaker was introduced by Grant Sparks. The speaker, Judge Lee Yeakel, gave an inspiring talk about Theodore Roosevelt, one of our greatest Presidents. He gave some interesting and information tidbits of his personal life and his ties to Texas and the west. To have lived only 60 years, Theodore Roosevelt accomplished quite a bit.

Taken up by Andrew. Carleton gave for the new Madeley grandson Grady Thomas McGrenera. Lonnie for the MS bike ride from Houston to Austin. Jerry for the smart muffler store robber. Chris for his son being accepted into a piano institute in Italy and GP. Lawrence for his new born donkey, Dora. There were a few others but I somehow can’t read my own writing. Speaker Highlights: Speaker was introduced by Grant Sparks. The speaker, Veronica Macon, is the Vice President of the Austin Housing Authority. She gave us some startling statistics on the number of units, residents and waiting times. APHA has 19 properties and partners with other organizations to provide a wide range of services to the community. Funded primarily by HUD, the authority works to break the cycle of poverty and build strong families. The Community Development Program receives approximately $500,000 per year in grants. She took questions afterwards

Speaker Highlights: Speaker was introduced by Bill Davidson. The speaker, John Knaggs gave a great talk about Texas history between the Alamo and San Jacinto. He studied both the Texan and Mexican side of the story and documents related to both. His book, “The Bugles are Silent” documents his findings and was for sale at the end of the program.

Announcements:
The Club Assembly was on the 16th of January. Lawrence reminded everyone of the need for speakers. Carleton mentioned there was a cluster meeting on Friday the25th and solicited a volunteer to attend. Carleton mentioned the need for auction items for the fund raiser and for corn bread baking contestants. Fred mentioned the Ronald McDonald House is February 7th and the 11th Street Cleanup is the 2nd.

Speaker Highlights: Speaker was introduced by Carleton. The speaker, Tom Fleming gave an interesting talk about Uzbekistan, where he was a Peace Corp volunteer for several years. He was a health teacher teaching fundamentalist Muslims about HIV and Aids. The presentation did a great job of highlighting the history and people of the country, which used to be part of the Soviet Union. He made himself available afterwards to answer questions and sign his book.

Announcements:
The Ronald McDonald House has moved to a new location. Karen Rima had knee surgery and will be away from the club for a while. Foundation Dinner is on 2-9-08. Phyllis motioned and Richard 2nd a proposed slate of new Officers for 2008/2009. Motion carried.

Speaker Highlights: Speaker was introduced by Carleton The speaker, Al Williams gave an insightful talk regarding Charles Joseph Whitman, the UT Tower shooter from August 1, 1966. 17 people were killed and 41 wounded during that mass killing. The shooter was killed by Houston McCoy but Romero Martinez got most of the credit. Mr. Williams has not been back to the Tower since the shooting. We watched approximately 15 minutes of DVD documentary on the shooting.

The Ronald McDonald House will be moving to a new location. Fred will keep us up to date on that situation. Phyllis collected auction items and reminded everyone to get started bringing them.

Speaker Highlights: Speaker was introduced by Camille. The speaker, Ron Cartlidge is a retired teacher in the Austin ISD and is a magician of note. He gave a great talk about Eric Weiss, otherwise known as Houdini. While many known of Houdini’s magical prowess, few know that he too was an aviator and actor. The UT Ransom Museum has quite a Houdini collection of artifacts. Mr. Cartlidge has written a book about Eric Weiss.

Phyllis gave looking for a RYLA chairman and the fund raiser silent auction items. Lee gave for his hunting dog and Karen for St Nicholas day in Holland.

Announcements:
Lawrence announced the need for speakers in January 2008. A roster went around for members to update. The next 11th Street cleanup will be in February 2008. Carleton announced there’d be no Happy Hour after the Ronald McDonald House this week. Andrew and Carleton will take up the money for the theater tickets and members are encouraged to get their money in asap. The troopers chili meal will be sometime in January 2008. Phyllis will make arrangements for gift certificates for the cafeteria staff.

Speaker Highlights: Speaker was introduced by Suzann Madeley. The speaker, Anne Dee Thierry spoke at length about her experiences in Bali and the good work she and her organization do for the people in Bali. They help with vitamins and milk among other things. They helped bring water and school books as well. She will be returning to Bali in January 2008. She and her organization sell jewelry to help raise funds for the Bali project.
